Work gripe. Share yours?

Geez! First off, this is a vent, so if you don't want to read about me complaining about work, hit the back button on your browser now! Anyway, so we have some leftovers from that presentation we made yesterday (in the thread from BTB about the lounge not getting posts yesterday). So I go down, make my self a sandwich and come back. I'm eating in my office, which shares and entrance with the head guy's office. Now normally I don't eat here at work. I go home because I live like 2 blocks away. But today I figured, hey, I can eat in my office. Nope. No sooner did I sit down then did people decide they have to stand in the entrance to my office and have a conversation. By the end of it there five, count them, five freaking people hovering over me while I was trying to eat. That's what I don't like about working here. The other scientists have no idea what ediqute is. Can you give me like five minutes to eat here please? We have 5-10 years on most of these grants, can you go light somewhere for like ten minutes? Good God. Earlier this morning some idiot down the hall was testing EVERY ringtone on his cellphone, one after another after another at full blast. You could hear it all the way down the hall. I finally walked down there and stood in his doorway until he saw me. Like, hello, people are trying to work idiot.

Ha ha, wow, I'm goign to be such a bitter old man-

yeah everybody takes lunch at a different time here every day. There are only a couple of guys my age that I really care to eat lunch with, and they're both PhD candidates, so their schedules are never the same one day to the next. I just like to have a break and get a way for a few. eat lunch in peace without people breathing down my neck about stuff that can wait for 20 minutes.

The only gripe I have at work is... well, going to work...lol!

Actually its ok except 11-7 shift really blows. God made it dark at night so we could sleep. Doesnt do much for family life either, but finding a day job making the same kinda money is probably not gonna happen. I get to spend alot of time with my youngest daughter because she is not in school yet. I only see the other two for about 45 minutes each morning on 3-11 shift. I see them for about a total of 2 hours a day on 11-7, since I have to run to bed and salvage as much rest as I can between 5:30 and 10:00 before work. Not easy for somebody like me, who is not much of a night owl. I also work 2 out of 3 weekends.
Better stop now, I am getting depressed....

i'm a waiter and my 2nd day there was yesterday. let's see here..
1. $2.70 an hour sucks on slow nights
2. rolling the silverware in the napkins
3. lower back pain
4. heavy/unstable trays
5. stupid people that leave their tables an absolute mess and don't tip

on the positive side...
1. the manager is cool
2. alot of the waitresses are hot (although the dress code is too conservative to get much eye candy)
3. when it's slow and there's no silverware to roll it's go chat with the ladies time.
4. free beverages
5. tips

lol, it was 2.15 when I was working at Friday's. yeah I did the server thing too for a year or so (damn, have I worked like every job or what!? lol) you only get a couple bux an hour because your main wages come from your tips. Get this! When i worked out there, they assumed you made the 15% on each table (so they just figured sales x .15 is what you had in your pocket. 3 percent of sales you had to PAY OUT at the end of the night. One percent for the bar guy, one for the PIC person and one for the people on the door. So there goes about 1/4 of my take home, right there. So those of you who understand what I'm saying, know where I'm going with this. If you have a table of 8 people who run up a 100 dollar bill and leave you 3 bucks? Bam, you made NOTHING for working on them for probaly close to 2 hours. Because remember, 3 percent gets tipped out. Even worse? That same table stiffs you. So now all the paying tables are going to others, your time is being spent busting your balls for this table for nothing. Actually, less than nothing. If a table stiffs a server THAT SERVER JUST PAID OUT OF HIS POCKET TO SERVE YOU. STIFFING PEOPLE IS NOT COOL, TAKE YOUR POOR BUTT TO MCDONALDS IF YOU CAN'T FIGURE A TIP INTO YOUR NIGHT OUT. So server pays out 3 percent of 100 which is 3 bucks, made no tip, so after two hours of work, said server is 3 dollars poorer, thanks to jerkwhodoesn'twanttotip.

lol, can you tell I have strong feelings on this? If you run up a 100 dollar tab, you owe that server 15-20 bucks. 15% if you have really nothing good to say about the service 20% if it was done very well.

You guys don't want my job. $34 an hour painting conduit installed by the electrical contractor I work for. In the West Chester University dorms, hot girls everywhere around campus, that I'm not allowed to stop working to talk to!

I have keys to the building so I can come in and work any day and time I want. You would think my boss would have the decency to give me some kind of work schedule!

The worst part is I'm only allowed to work 40 hours a week.

I usually work by myself, unsupervised can you believe it?

I e-mail my boss my hours at the end of the week, no questions.

At the end when wrapping up the job I get paid the same rate to clean up the trash left in the halls by the electricians. What am I, a maid!?

Oh wait, my job kicks ***.

and I've been doing it since I was 16. Usually only in the summers. I've been working on Saturdays lately, work will go on from now until March because of schedule changes made by the University.

Ca Ching, does anyone have a good understanding of the stock market? I want to start investing.
