Working with ABS......

I'll be repairing some ABS plastic fairings (sportbike) to get them ready for paint. I have a few cracks and several spots where I'll need cut pieces from a spare fairing to fill holes...

I was hoping to plastic weld cracks / missing pieces.

What's the recommendation for filing / smoothing the imperfections left?

ABS cement? Filler?

What about a finishing / spot putty?

Also, if I go down to bare plastic on these ABS I NEED to apply any kind of special primer or adhesion promoter?

On pieces that have solid factory paint still applied, can't I get away with just sanding with 400 or 600 wet before applying base coat?

I have several pieces that have some rough paint on them right now. Was planning on sanding with 180 or so to get the majority of the old paint off, then put several coats of the 2K Urethane Aerosol Filler Primer on, then sanding that smooth before applying the base..

Is there any steps I'm missing?

I use Loctite Hysol 4500 on ABS. It's an industrial adhesive that remains flexible. This and U05FL were the only products the Loctite engineer recommended for ABS. The place I work reps Henkel Loctite so I was able to talk to an application engineer about this very thing. I use Evercoat Euro Soft as a filler because it's flexible. The numbers for it are 408 for the 20 ounce kit and 409 for the half gallon. I use epoxy primer to seal everything before I hit it with polyester primer.
