Worst feeling ever

Doesn't it suck when you try to fix and improve your car, and you end up screwing something else up?

Especially when it's your only ride. Loads of fun.

It sucks now, but tomorrow it'll be the stuff that your experience is made of.

Later, Mikey

My dad always says that if you don't screw up, you aren't trying hard enough. I know I'm plenty trying.....

Yeah it sure does! These other guys are right, you'll use it to your advantage next time you encounter a problem.

I found, however, that I make the most dumb mistakes when I'm working on the car stressed out or under some kind of constraint (time or other). Whenever possible take the time to preplan and think about an issue you haven't encountered before. This board is a great resource.

Best of luck-

K

Hmmm, based on that...
I try to do everything, does that make everything I do wrong? Sure seems that way sometimes.

re: Worst feeling ever

I especially like it when you get something nice (paint buffing, sanding, tightening something) and try for a little nicer or tighter, and you *%#^%@ it up. All the time ignoring the inner voice that says "get away from it, you idiot!" I have resorted to actually telling myself these words out loud. Sometimes I even listen to myself.

Keep breakin' parts, keep breakin' tools, you'll keep learnin'. One little piece of advice, if you think you broke a tranny, pull your differential cover and take a look before you pull the tranny. That's my latest stupid mistake

What did you do?

Maybe you can save someone else from doing the same thing.

I swapped my valve covers, becuase the old ones were leaking and ugly anyway.

After I did that, I developed a major smoking issue to the point I couldnt breathe inside my car. On the plus side, after 6 hours of cleaning and searching like a moron, I noticed something that made me rather annoyed...

The 3rd plug back on both sides were loose enough to move almost half an inch side to side....And I had recently had a tune-up done at a shop, including plugs.

While we are on the topic, the smoke as since stopped since I tightened up the plugs...My dad says it was probably just spilt oil on the headers, but i ran the car for at least an hour total to try and burn it off, and there was no more oil spilling on them. Could the white smoke have been coming through the incredibly loose plug holes?
