What engines are they? If they are the same make sure you get all the linkage, tranny mounts, and maybe even the crossmember. Check the drive shaft length too! Good luck!

John, is the '78 T/A 400ci a stock pontiac engine or is it a chevrolet? If its a pontiac 400 the tranny will not work, but if its a smallblock chevy 400 then it will work fine.

John, what type transmission is the manual. If it is Borg Warner, Saginaw, or Muncie it should fit the Monte. You might have to change u joint or front yoke on driveshaft or even drive shaft. Get clutch disc that goes with tranny to have correct input spline. May have to move crossmember back etc but both are GM and should work with a little elbow grease. Opps forgot to ask if you have a chevy bellhousing for your engine? If so few or no problems. Pontiac housing won't fit.
