LOL!

I guess it's cuz I'm from Sacramento, California and never really been anywhere else, not even LA. Around here, the only places without garages are either really old with only car ports, or apartments. There's also a small portion in downtown (which is so small it's sometimes funny to call it "Downtown") where they park on the streets. It's pretty dull out here though, not much to do, and not much ever going on... . Makes me want to go to NY!

yah. lots of stuff going on in new york for sure. lots of it costs $ though. Summer's not so bad, i guess, lots of free music and such. winter's harder.

Love this place, though. But considerin moving to LA area.

Never been to Cali. never been West of the Mississippi for that matter. Would love year round warm weather but don't want to deal with the smog junk they put on the rides out there.

I'm trying to recall seeing a house in the Central Valley of California that DIDN'T have a garage. Not having much luck. I'm not talking about the 500 sq-ft shacks, although most of them have garages too. My house has a 3-car garage (with 3 cars in it!) in addition to my 1700 sq-ft shop. And don't get a bad impression of California from your exposure to LA. That pit and San Francisco are aberrations. The rest of the state is really very nice.

P.S. come on out. We have a 10% income tax, a 7 1/2% sales tax, $0.35 state gas tax, one of the highest property tax rates in the nation, an illegal alien population that is threatening to exceed the legal citizen population (our governor has in essence declared the state a safe haven for illegals, also, they are eligible for free housing, free medical care, driver's licenses, & food stamps).

If you like the LA area, a 1,400 sq ft tract house sells in the $700,000 range, the state government admits to a deficit of $38,000,000,000 so you know it is actually probably at least double that. Our schools have a 48% drop out rate although we spend over $10,000/student/year.

The state has funded free abortions to minors, regardless of income and without parental notification for years, way ahead of th rest of the nation. I lost a grandson whom I will never be able to play catch, shoot hoops with, watch Pink Panther movies with, or rebuild a hemi with because of this wonderful program.

Unemployment is double digit.

Oh, and our state credit rating has been lowered to DDD, just above junk bond (no investment allowed) status. That will cost us added billions over the near future.

Ah, the joys of living under socialism!!

mshellw, move upstate, (not just to Yonkers either) Away from the larger cities in NY it's a different world. Start about 100 miles North of the city.

Willys, you forgot all the ambulance chasing lawyers and all the ridiculous lawsuits that clog your court system and a Governor that is about to be recalled and all those "strange zombies" in San Fran.. But I love the Californian's romance with the automobile. The number of rods per capita has to be the highest in the world!!

Yes, the two pits of LA and SF make the state look like an insane asylum. However the vast majority of the state is rural fly-over country where the old hot rod community thrives. We hope the Marxists can be dethroned and the state can again realize it's true potential.

I have to second everything Willys said. Bring back the guestworker program, send the illegals collecting welfare back home, and bring the deficit down about 5 billion.

Actually, i remember reading a while back that Ohio has the most street rods per capita, thats why the Street Rod Nationals are in Louisville, KY because thats where the most cars are per capita in the midwest.

Probably true. Ohio has been a rodding hotbed from the beginning. They sure had their fair share of great Gassers in the 60s.
