In case anyone was wondering.....

I saw the Sattellite/Roadrunner/GTX episode, and decided to look around for some "real" Roadrunners, as one of my neighbors owns an all original one, and came across an ad for a "Plymouth Roadrunner GTX For Sale".

http://www.oldride.com/classic_cars/812822.html

Apparently, the winning bidder is trying to get rid of this car, for the price of $100k+. I thought some of you all might be interested in this.

My $.02 worth...

Like the rest of you guys, I think it is great that our needs are being somewhat satisfied with the advent of the "watch 'em build it" TV shows currently on tap. Although I do enjoy seeing the finished products from the shows, I primarily watch them to learn some of the tricks of the trade from these top-tier builders. I too tire quickly of the conflicts, temper-tantrums, and pranks that invariably take up way too much air time on the shows. Sometimes they will push it to the point where I even (gasp!) say the heck with it and change the channel.

I doubt if anyone on this board would object if they cut down on all the crap in the shows and devote more time to going into much more detail about how things get done and the techniques they use to get the usually-awesome results they get. Watching some guy take a crapped-out body panel out of the main shop and see it return as a pristine, perfectly-finished part is about as satisfying as seeing the Playmate of the Year in a burkha.

What I find really interesting is that he doesn't bother to mention that it's a CLONE! Just another case of someone trying to rip off some unsuspecting (read less than knowledgeable) buyer with more money than sense.

This idiot paid around $75K for this car (which is about $20k more than it's worth) and now he's trying to rip off a buyer by selling it for almost double it's value. Have no fear however, some other idiot will buy it and think he really got a good deal on an authentic GTX, which it AIN'T!

I sent the seller the following message, it will be interesting to see if I get a response. If I do I'll post it for everyone's reading pleasure.

Just a comment.... You do realize that by advertising this car as a GTX you are committing fraud don't you? This car was NEVER a GTX. It is a Satellite with some RoadRunner sheet metal and a crate hemi. The car is a CLONE and should be billed that way. I would hate to think of the legal repercussions if a buyer finds out that it's not a real GTX after spending over a hundred grand on it. I know if it was me, I'd be talking to my lawyer pretty quickly.

Of course we all realize that if you billed it as what it really is, you could never get your asking price. Funny how greed can turn otherwise honest people into total liars isn't it.

re: Wrecks to Riches

Now look at these

The first one is sweet

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Plym...sspagenameZWDVW

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Plym...006174693QQrdZ1

And with the Wrecks to Riches car, what is this pic showing? Is this not on the actual car? And hopefully the seller swapped out the front side markers for some real ones that were not painted orange

My guess is a trunk, but the only car that comes to mind with rear wheel flares is a '37 ford....pretty sure i'm wrong though.

For CENTERLINE: definitely post any feed back you get from this guy; I'm all about lame explanations

Re: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Plym...006174693QQrdZ1

"You are bidding on a "Real" 1971 GTX "U" code 440ci car. This is not a clone GTX ! This car is still the original color for the car, which is a very desirable rally red with black transverse stripes. During restoration this beast had the 6 pak intake and carbs added. It was also converted to a 4-speed transmission from the original automatic transmission. Everything was done correctly with careful attention to detail. The result is a GTX 440, 6 pak, 4 speed."

"I cannot guarantee that this is the original motor, however, it is a very good strong running motor and it is a 440ci."

This is not a real 440-6 pack 4-speed car. The 6 pack and 4-speed have been added to a automatic transmission car with unknown induction. He can't even guarantee the engine is original. Other than this has an original GTX body it is no more an original GTX than any of the Wrecks to Riches cars.

AAAAh, what to do when the cost of restoration exceeds the value of the vehicle.

re: Wrecks to Riches

Build a hot rod instead unless you want to sell it to somebody who will restore it hoping it will be a good investment!

I have to disagree. That is an actual GTX. The fact that it's not numbers matching and may have different induction takes nothing away from the fact that the car is what he says it is. The Wrecks to Riches car on the other hand was never a GTX nor was it a RoadRunner. It is a Satellite which is verifiable with the VIN number and the fender tag, if Berry's crew left it in there.

I know it seems like simantics but leagally the VIN number tells the story and that is what the market goes by when assessing the value. Leagally the red GTX is a GTX and Barry's super muscle car is nothing more than a souped up Satallite.

re: Wrecks to Riches

i only got to see a few of the shows , i guess its season is over for now. i really like the fact that they are saving what is doomed for the crusher and giveing it new life. i like that they have a more realistic budget, more like i could afford to spend. not like some other shows that just throw money at it.
plus they are do much like iam planning for my project starting with a basic junker and doing it from ground up. so all in all a great show just need more of them........

re: Wrecks to Riches

I saw the show in which the junkyard was going to crush the Chevelle. That was a bunch of BS! They weren't going to junk that car. It just so happened that Barry showed up in-the-nick-of-time, saving it from the crusher.
What did the owner sell if for? $2750? Sure. He was going to scrap it..........not.
