Wrecks to Riches

Has anyone seen th enew show, Wreck to Riches which shows Barry White taking a junker, cloning it into something it is not, then taking it to auction. Last night he made a '71 GTO. Anyways, after he got it together he pulled it out onto the street and nailed it. What the heck were the sparks flying out from under the front end. Looks like something was really amiss there.

Doc here,

Yeah, I saw that too..right under the left front side..I thought it was my crummy eyesight..though...

This guy is a bit more realistic that the others though..at least he shows the budget and the time (in Weeks), not days and hours..like the other shows..

I watched this one and the first a week or so ago. On the first one he did basically the same thing but sold the car at auction for a small profit. I saw the sparks under the car this week as well but wasn't sure if it was sparks or fluid leaking. I also thought the car was a bit too low in front. At any rate that car was NOT worth the $50K reserve. If it was a real GTO maybe.... but a clone...... and not even a good one? No way.

I saw the "sparks". I think they were some loose chain or alum foil hanging down. Maybe the show digitally blurred something they didn't want us to see.

It seems like everywhere the editors digitally blur something they don't want us to see. In the show they blurred out stickers in the shop advertising a certain brand, they blur out brands on people's shirts.
On Cops they blur out some of the suspect's faces --hell on American Chopper I even saw them blur out the UPS man's face one time!
I saw a lil "Dirty Jobs" show [an old repeat] in which Mike Rowe was on a ranch artificially inseminating female horses.
I remember when it was originally broad casted they showed "everything"-- Mike cleaning the horses "private" area with his knuckles before he inseminated it, and putting his whole arm up each orifice.
The show must have had a lot of complaints, and even I when I first saw it was surprised them showing the horse's rear and everything Mike did to it, because last night all of those areas were blurred out.
OK back to hotrodding.

I don't know about that. While that car's reserve may seem unrealistic to you and me, there's people out there that will pay that much money for the car. The first two cars I saw since this show started was bought at the same auction, by the same guy, supposedly with a stable of Barry White cars. He wasn't there at this Pontiac auction. Barry White builds hot rods. That, coupled with the quality of the car will sell it. Barry just needs to get to the right auction.

Wrecks to Riches

I've seen all three shows broadcast here. While the cars come out looking terrific, personally I resent his calling them what they are not. Last nites car was not a GTO!! Just had a GTO front end. They are clones pure and simple. If someone wants a clone, apparently a great modern clone that's fine. But it is by no means a GTO!!!!

A little off the subject, but this thread reminded me of something I saw in the motle parking lot used by a lot of people attending the Bigh Charlotte Motorama at Lowes Motor Speed way. There was a 66 Pontiac station wagon there that carried the lables of Safari and GTO. The hood and grille and dash looked GTO and the rest looked Safari. My question to the Goat experts, did Pontiac actually make this machine or has it been cloned. Regardless, it was a sharp looking vehicle and I would have been proud to cruise in it!!!

there are rumors about a few GTO wagons being produced, I've never seen any pictures of them but i believe it was in the early 70's. However I remember an old mechanic friend of mine who worked for GM in the sixties telling me stories about some of the cars that rolled off the assembly lines that GM never officially produced. I'll have a look on the web and see what i can dig up.

according to these guys three four door station wagons and one convertible were rumored to have rolled off the line in '72

I'd love to see some pictures of one, would make an awesome family car!

heres a couple pictures of a 71 judge station wagon somebody built,

Most of the reputable guys call them as they are...clones, be it GTO or Z28 Camaro, and they still sell for big bucks. Watch the Barrett Jackson prices. They're outrageous, even for the clones, but they do sell. It's craaazy man!

Actually the Silver Auction is a well established auction, just not the size or notority of the B.J auctions, It is held at the Expo Center in Portland, Ore,, a big complex, there just wasn't very many cars there at that particular auction, so that means that the buyers weren't there either, I was at that auction, and watched the clone GTO go through, it was undoubtly the nicest car there, just no one with the funds to buy it,, Barry had mentioned before the car even got to the ramp that he didn't think it would sell, but he will sell it no doubt,,

The guy who seems to be buying most of the Barry White cars is Ardell Brown who owns RV Dealerships based out of Salt Lake...
