This is a complicated process that is different depending on how much wrinkling (the process is actually called shirring) you want and how much padding you want. my insert is 16 x 19. i am trying to sew 3 pieces 4 in wide in put in this area. i am using rave vinal material and i did try the elasic but the material only gathered on the edges. i was trying it across the 16 in length. maybe thats to wide. i could try it vertical across the 4 in wide section maybe it will work better. thanks
What are you padding it with? You need to fill those three areas and attach the three sections to a solid backing piece the size of your insert. You can do this one of two ways, either one large backing piece behind the three sections, or three individual backing pieces sewn to each small section, and then sewn together to make the larger piece.
