need input with motor mounts and steering shaft

What would you do? Here's my situation, doing a MII swap in a Maverick using a sbf for right now. I'm using fox mustang motor mounts and the perch also. I'm running into a clearance problem at the moment with the steering shaft. I don't know how big around the coupler or Ujoint is. Here are some pictures to better show my problem. Right now there is about 3/8" from the perch and the shaft.

I'm looking for some ideas, I could notch the perch for the coupler or slot the bolt holes for the motor mount to the motor itself and bring the hole piece closer to the motor and away from the shaft. Any advice or opinions, I'm all ears??!
