XE274 or 292H???
 
Which cam would be better in this combo i already have the 292H comp Cam but i have about a month to decide if i need to keep this cam or go with the COMP CAM XE274.. motor is not in the Car yet still in the building stage.

I Have a 350 bored .40 over
Comp cam 292H, (501/501) Lift
1.5 ratio Roller tip Rocker Arms
VORTEC HEADS 64cc(with the Reccomended Beehive Valve Spings)
Edelbrock RPM airgap Intake
Flat top Pistons
Eagle Connecting Rods (Standard Length 5.7)
650 Edelbrock Carb
373 Rearend Gears
and hooker headers 1 5/8..

The XE 274 if one of those two have to be picked. More low end power and more power under the curve using the parts you outlined, and will be much better on the street. The longer duration of the 292 will want more rear gear and converter stall.

I'd guess around 400 hp, possibly more. This would be an excellent time to acquaint yourself w/the Comp cams program, CamQuest. By entering the specs of your engine, it will give you an estimated torque and horsepower graph like if the engine were run on a dyno. If you need help inputting anything, just ask. :thumbup:

What kind of car are you installing this motor in. Weight makes a difference. The heavier the car the more torque is needed instead of hp. How much vacuum do you need to operate power brakes, etc? Check out these graphs and look at the vacuum readings too. The larger the camshafts also need bigger carburetors and rear gears.

the gears I'll give you.. tho. lite cars can be mighty fast/quick with 2.73's and a big stick..

the bigger carb I call fowl on.. a 355 cid will need the same air flow.. no matter what cam you slide in it.. it doesn't become a 455 just because you stuffed a big cam in it..
the bigger carb also hurts the low end torque that causes the need for bigger gears 3.90/4.10/4.56
so please explain..

The motor will be going in a 84 camaro...

COMP CamsŪ - Xtreme Energy 274 Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft, Part # 12-246-3 Dyno Sheet shows the HP (370 @ 5900 rpm) and torque (410 ft/lbs @ 3900 rpm) that cam makes using Dart SR heads and a vacuum secondary Holley 750. What's interesting is the power at 5100 rpm all the way to the peak at 5900 rpm is nearly the same.

Comp dyno graphs shows dyno results for the other XE series cams.

If you were to use the 292H, be sure you have enough compression or else it will be a dog.
