My goodness what art some of these cars are. You could hang it in a museum next to a Rembrandt in my opinion.

Others aren't so beautiful but damn clever.

Enjoy!

A good friend is trying to get me to the Hot Rod Reunion in March. He runs a restored Canadian Fuel Altered called Outcast 1.

He told me that the next event will include a "Fuel Altered Eliminator" bracket!

I've always been passionate about this class, so I've just GOT to share my one encounter with an Altered! :-)

I had given up my plans to eventually be a pro racer, so I could pursue my "replacement dream" to do custom paint. In the eighties a friend built an AHRA "Econo Altered" which I built the Austin Bantam body for, complete with flip-up canopy, and I painted it.

Later it was sold to another local racer. He teamed up with a local dragster racer, who had enough extra parts to put together a blown Chevy engine so they could run the AHRA Fuel Altered Nationals in Tucson.

Here it is in both forms.

A couple of years ago when I flew out to Bakersfield and hooked up with Bad Rat and Dinger Dan. We went to the Hot Rod Reunion and were in the stands during the Altered Class when "The Winged Express" did that full track wheelie and we are still talking about it to this day. There's just something about those cars that stirs something up inside you.
Thanks Brian,
WR

The ultimate "Aw ****" pic, with the possible exception of one involving Gas Ronda's timing chain

I saw this happen to an altered at the Charleston, Illinois 1/8th mile track in the sixties! They used to host Altered events.

Marcellus and Borsch also crashed at that track once.
