YouTube to charge for watching videos

"YouTube to charge for watching videos: Monthly subscription channels set to launch this week to take on TV broadcasters
Subscriptions could cost £1.28 ($1.99 a month) per channel
Between 25 and 50 channels are expected to be made subscription-only when the service launches."

If it includes any of the channels I´m subscribed to I´ll just quit it.
We´re already inundated with advertising before every vid you click to watch.

That is horrible. I finally figured out how to make a video with my phone, and send it to youtube. Turned out to be easy and fast. Figures they start charging.

Will you still be able to post videos and links to them for free?

They are charging for tv and movie shows, or everything?

It will probably turn into something like a Hulu+ service for shows and whatnot. Only thing I'm subscribed to is Jay Leno's garage so as long as that stays free, I'm good.. It would also provide youtube to be accessable with internet connected TV's and media players like Roku. Right now the only way to get Youtube on the Roku is a back door thru the Plex App

More about it.

Some of the channels — there will be several dozen at the outset — will cost as little as $1.99 a month.

Once it starts and if no one complains I see the above figures as a starting point only.

and?? so???
either the content will warrant the fee or the "idea" cause thats what it is a marketing idea to charge a fee.. will flop

I think this test will fail.. and I'm sure it's coming about is from people blasting email cry'n about the ad that plays before the video..
so for the owners of that channel to remove the ad, you'll pay a fee..
this is how cable started out.. you pay so you'll not have ads, see how that played out.. this will be no different..
it'll fail or work depending if people if they line up to pay the fee or not..
time will tell..
people tend to make the wrong choice when offered to pay for something that used to be free..

You are telling your age there gearhead, remember that! Oh yeah, cable, pay a fee and you don't have any commercials, what a crock that was! Yep, how long did that last, then they started creeping in slyly now we have those F-ING ads at the bottom of the screen DURING your damn show! I have really tried to boycott those networks and send them a nasty email too, what a joke.
