zz4 build questions 55 chev stepside
I picked up a mildly used zz4 350 engine 1993 , bore 4.030, with wrong cast heads, I am looking at putting gm 18 degree aliminum heads with heavy springs ( head numbers 10128374) i am looking for sugestions on putting a lumpy sound cam, and intake, and carb sugestions.
to go with the aluminum heads , not looking for record breaking, just want a good sounding truck with a good 1/4 mile. I am a 60 year old trying to put his childhood dream truck together. any suggestions will be appreciated |

heads
the numbers i gave are cast in the aluminum heads (flat track)
the heads on the engine are 14101081 305 heads cast I have purchased the gm alum heads for $300..you are right they are flat track heads that have been ran 4 times , they look very clean..that is why i was going to use them, they have 3/8 studs with heavy springs will these work? would you use another head? I have been a general mechanic (autos outboards, small engines etc) all my life but have never attempted to build a hot rod engine any help would tons of help |

The LT1 Heads must have had the Ports welded & corrected for the Gen1 Block.
Have they been angle milled to 18*? If so you'll need to have the Intake you're going to run Milled to match the Head to Intake mount angle. You will also need to cc the combustion chambers as they may be smaller than 58cc which will raise the Cr higher than the stock ZZ4's 10:1 Cr. |

heads 2
I am starting to see the picture, the heads wil work but will take modification of the intake to make these work..I am supposing this is a huge cost,
like i said i am a machinist mechanic but havent attempted a hotrod before. sounds loke i will start looking for other heads,,,the 18 degree heads I believe were manafactured with 18 degree . i ran accross a set of corvete heads last nightg with 50 k on them for 350 dollars maybe will pursue these thanks for all your help..may have more questions later thanks |
