Well if you can find the origional OEM GM torque converter that was installed on the 1987
Monte Carlo SS with the 305HO motor. It is the right converter.
This was a special onique OEM high stall torque converter that gave a 3000 stall with lock up behind the 305 HO Monte Carlo motor with the th2004r trans. The 305HO cam used in that motor was pretty close to the ZZ4 cam. (it was a bit milder by a few degrees than the ZZ4 but bigger than the stock TBI cam.
and needed that high stall and the OEM 3.73 gears (or more)
the motor does not get busy until 3000+rpm when cammed up.
Stock 305's are very easy to overcam. You won't like it with the stock low stall OEM caprice torque converter.
Or the OEM Caprice rear gear ratio.
I don;t know the OEM GM part number or the OEM GM K code ID number to ID it. Other than it is 245MM diameter.
But thats the Cheap solution if you can find one.
get that and the 7.5" 4.10 gears from a old S10 truck rear end (usually 4 cylinder) and you are good to go with the ZZ4 cam in a 305.
your 305 caprice will actually go pretty good, then. Now you got something that is not all bark no bite. (poser car)
If you just want sound just pull 1 or 2 spark plug wires off, and drill a few holes in the muffler, as required.
