zz4 sbc

i have a question , i just purchased a used zz4 sbc, i see it has 305 heads from a 87 88 camaro...i also just found a set of gm 23 degree aluminum heads

trying to put together a 55 chev truck..want a streetable hotrod..wont be a daily driver for sure...i just would like advice on which heads to use.

by my internet research it looks like the 305's will give it 11.1 compression

also should i use the zz4 cam or can you recommend a new cam with the aluminum?

the heads are supposed to have the heavy springs, what roller rockers lift should i have 3/8 studs?

thanks for any advice you can give me

i am a newbe at hotrodding

i am looking for a street/strip rod

What ever you were reading, was internet BS.

The ZZ4 came with 58cc aluminum heads and flat top pistons. The cr is 10:1. The 305 heads are 58cc or larger.
The cr is the same or slightly lower.

What is the casting number on the heads on your motor?

zz4 numbers head numbers

the head numbers are 14101081, the block numbers 10243880

I also found a red and silver sticker glued to the block says remanufactured number 548767
probably was a crate motor that was rebuilt with vortec heads 4 bolts down center valve cover , is hard to say whats inside without dismantling
what do you think?

I think you are assuming a lot in assuming it is or was a ZZ4.

Those are not vortec heads. They are the heads that came on the 305 TPI motors from mid/late 80's Camaros and Firebirds.

I bet your motor has a cast crank too. May not have the ZZ4 cam or the good hyper flat top pistons. That block was used in lots of stock motors.
