Zz502 Crate Engine Boil Over In 5 Minutes At Idle. We Are Running 6/71 Bds Blower ,it Has Blower Cam/pistons, Set The Timing To Bds Specs, New Mattson Triple Core Rad. Any Ideas?

Hi did you check the thermostat? boil test it to see if it opens at the proper degrees, its a crate motor everything internal should be good, l run a big block and l found that the 3 core made it run hot, sitting still so l but a 4 core in it and has been run fine for about 2 years now, new motor make more heat until broke in, big block with blower well theres alot of heat, hows about water pump pulley size? or is it electric? there are people on here that will answer your question better if you give all the specs and work from there, just a thought. I Tryed The Thermostat It Was Fine, Then Tryed Without Stat Then Tryed Drilled Out Stat.still The Same, We Are Going To Run The Car Without Blower To See If Its The Same.

Hi did you mean that you drill out the thermostat housing for air pocket?

i drilled out to restrict the flow then changed to 185 degree stat. still the same

What kind of fan and are you running a shroud on the fan.
What kind of car is it. How hot does the gauge read.
What is the timing set at.

l run a 165 thermostat in mine

If the engine is getting hotter than the thermostat rating it really doesnt matter what rating it has, something else is wrong. If it boils over with a 190 its still goingto boil over with a 160, just a little slower maybe.

I Am Using Mattsons Radiator Module With Twin Electric Fans Built For My 55 Chevy. I Think Rad Cap Is 16 Pounds Pressure.THE GAUGE READS 185 DEGREES AT IDLE AND IT TOOK NO LONGER THAN 5 MINUTES TO GET THERE.

So is it puking up at 185, 5 minutes is well within reason. Is it actually boiling over due to temperature or is it just puking up coolant. If it is running at 185 with a 16 LB cap, I doubt it is boiling. The boiling point would be roughly 265 or more depending on your coolant mix.
Start it and put a thermometer in the radiator and see what the temp gets up to, if it starts to puke coolant, check the temp at that point.
You could have a bad head gasket or something else adding presure the to cooling system.
