The Kustomsledd
Dr. Chop

I'm transforming a lowly 1954 Ford Customline sedan into a righteous 'railing kustom kemp.

We're talking 500 cubic inches of big Cadillac power, coupled to a Turbo 400 automatic. This swap necessitated changing out the rear axle to an 8" Ford with a 3.00-to-1 ring and pinion for proper gearing and increased life. I chopped the top 5", angle-channeled the body down over the flooring, rebuilt the rockers, put in new rear wheelhouses, and set the car up with air ride all around. Part 1: Finishing the Chop

Here's the start of the new rear window. First I had to get rid of this huge opening, left after chopping the top and removing the old window glass. The purple filler is actually a section from the Tudor quarter panel of the '28.

This is the hole I'm trying to fill, with formed sheet and a '26 T centerdoor rear window panel. Kustomsledd Project: click for larger photo

The formed panel.

The panel in place. Now there's a much smaller area to fill between these panels, and with a relatively flat piece of sheet metal. I found this way much easier than trying to fill the hole with one large section. Kustomsledd Project: click for larger photo

The new oval rear window, from the centerdoor T sedan panel. The white strip below is the small filler I needed to eliminate some rust holes along the bottom edge, and properly space the window opening vertically.

The new window from inside. Looks like it belongs there with the roof lowered that much. Kustomsledd Project: click for larger photo
