Part 9: Front Floor Pans
Everett Gross

Next up, front floor pans. You can plainly see they need to go or I'll have to play Fred Flintstone (that funny came from Madd Syntst).

Floor boards are out in this pic.

Here's the tranny tunnel. Glad to get rid of it.

Ahhhhh, yes! That looks better. Nice, new and solid. I made the tranny tunnel screw into place so I can get to the tranny if it ever needs to be worked on. Looks good, doesn't it?

To this point I've missed my September deadline. It's now October 2nd but the weather is still fairly nice. So I can't wait any longer -- it's time to put the body on the chassis. Have a look, I'm about ready to drop it on. Only took two of us to do it. I held up the body on one end or the other while one of my boys took out the blocks one by one. Didn't take long at all.

Here we go. It's me with the body on GRINNING like a kid on Christmas morning. Notice I'm using one of the most favorite hotrodders' seats of all times. Yep! It's a 5 gallon bucket. This is one of the two most important days of building the '38 that I've been looking forward to. The other is when I get to fire her up. I just about can't resist doing it now but I have lots to do before that time comes.

In closing, I now have the steering column in temporarily, it's from a Chevy S-10 pickup. I have sold my old garage heater which doesn't work, and am currently looking for a new heat source for this winter. The bug has bitten me pretty hard and I've gotten far enough along this year that I can't stop now. I want to get it ready to paint next spring. Still thinking about color schemes. That's a very hard decision for me to make. I may have to look at it for a long time so I'd like a good one. Any suggestions?

The body will remain mostly stock. I may go with newer flush door handles instead of shaved, still thinking on it though. Halloweenking has given me an idea for a type of fender skirt. Also he has given me ideas for a theme-type car but I might deviate a good bit from it. Here's one idea I had following HK's train of thought: diamond running boards. But it was just a thought. I think I'll make new running boards 'cause the old ones are in bad shape. In the future after I get the car done I'd like to get an old silver trailer of some sort and rebuild/refurbish it to pull behind the '38 to travel with. That's it until I get farther along. Hope you enjoyed the ride with me. HAPPY HOT RODDING GANG!
