Sorry about the spelling
K, I am looking at backhalfing a `63 Nova (and putting a Mustage II front end on). I am new to this. It has always just been UNDER the hood and body work for me in the past. I have the sheets to fill out to order the rear clip. But I am not sure of how to getthe correct mesurments so I get the ride height I am after. I am hopping to go rather low and do a mini tub on it. Has any one been threw anything like this and can you offer any tips so I can do it right the first time? Thanks! [ March 29, 2002: Message edited by: novass ]</p> |

When I start on a chassis, I beging FIRST with tires/wheels and go back form there.
they establish rolling radius. fender clearance to the outside, final rear end width and frame width needed on the inside. Tub dia... and then you decide on ground clearance for the car. that determines frame kick and spring/shock (and susp/bars) placement. Instead of sticking the rear where it fits easiest, or whereever it just lands, decide what height you want the car, what rake (assuming a lot, I am!) and measure where the car is, then stuff the tires in there and that is where the axle center goes to make it happen. where ya place the rear (with really large tires which are too big for most wheel wells, the fender shape can be stretched in both directions or just one... usually to the front for drag cars, but... who's to say IF the rule book you will be under does not? have fun. tommy |

Thanks for the tips....I am NOT looking for a drag car...just a lean street machine.
I have the rear wells and the trunk cut out already (thinking about the floor aswell , only because I need a new firewall...Y not do it all) As for a RAKE...I am not looking for a jacked up rear...I already have that..looking to change it. I guess I have changed my mind over time and driffted from the pro strret look to pro tour. So, I need to get my rims and wrap em first. Can do. 17"X?? |
