I have a 1956 Ford w/351W and C-4 trans. I currently have the standard steering and since it steers like a truck I would like to put in a power steering unit that would clear the headers. I'm so close (1/8") that the grease wants to turn to oil and leak out the box. Anyone have ideas? I also would like to go to disc brakes on the front. Anyone with an idea?
Thanks. <img src="confused.gif" border="0"> |

why not consider using a mustang power rack? Have seen these used on street rods. since you have the 351 using the ford pump and serpentine belt would be simple. mounting the rack to the cross member would be the most diffcult part and maybe tie rod ends. food for thought?

Kansas - Thanks for the idea. I thought about it and I think I'll look into it.

re: Power steering conversion
The most common solution to the power steering solution is to swap in the complete Mustang II front subframe. Believe it or not, you can cut the frame on your '56 and the Mustang II will match the frame perfectly. Measure where to cut to maintain the same wheelbase. This way, you get a power front rack, disc brakes, a front mid-coil suspension and lower the ride height about 2 inches, not to mention a V-8 compatible engine mount.
