As far as I know the 54 was similar to the 55-57 with the box located behind the crossmember. If This is the case a Saginaw 605 box modified to fit a 55-57 chevy could be made to work. It is a gamble but I know that it has to be possible.
As far as I know power assist was not available in 54 on the Chev'. You might try looking to an Olds for a power assist. But it will be tough to get parts for and $$$. I would contact Mike McCulley's Classic Chevrolet and tell them what you want. I will bet they can help you set up a 605 for your 54. Good Luck |

power was available in 54 although pretty damn rare. ive only seen one car in person with it(mine) and heard of a couple more.
....you have to get >ALL< the parts that make the power steering fit and work. It's NOT JUST the steering gear you need. You should also get: the idler arm (third arm) and relay the pitman arm the driver side motor mount tower the fresh air duct adaptor on the radiator baffle the shifting mechanism on the column and to the tranny That's just to fit the gear in the engine bay. The pump and its parts are a whole other set of parts! |
