Just a few things to consider. Are all ball joints, control arm bushings and tie rod ends in good shape? If you have to replace them, its not so cheap any more. You will have to fabricate something to mount the core support and also the bumper. No big deal, but more stuff to consider. This swap done correcty is a good one, done wrong and you take it all apart again to get the truck to drive right.

Actually the Camaro/Firebird clip is too wide for the AD trucks. A Nova clip will fit much better and won't require offset wheels or narrowed "A" arms to keep the tires from rubbing the fenders.
What Old Crow says is correct. Using a clip won't always save you money or time. Unless you completely rebuild the clip it won't ride much better than the straight axle did and there are a lot of issues to address when it comes to mounting the front sheet metal. One more thing if you do install a clip have a professional welder do the welding. Your safety and everyone else's will rely on the quality of the welds. Personally if the stock frame is in good shape I believe you would be better off using a Mustang II kit. The engineering is built in, they're easy to install and ride just as good. But that's my opinion. Good luck. Bill HotRodsAndHemis.com

re: clip question
I just bought a AD Chev truck & am trying to decide which IFS to weld in.
I am not fond of the Must II IFS. I prefer the GM clips . The Chevelle, El Camino((1985) etc,has the correct track(58") but, I have not been able to find the distance between the legs. (I am talking front steer clips) The Camaro is 37" to the outside of the legs & 29" to the inside. If anyone knows if the later model GM cars have less distance between the legs please step forward. Thanks Don |
