Hi i have a 1955 ford mainline which is basically a customline from the firewall forward. The only thing differant is the back half which is a ute.
Oh and its right hand drive. Does anyone know of a front suspension conversion kit for customlines alone the lines of the many kits offered for 55-57 chevys using the mustang II crossmember complete with rack and pinion larger brakes tubular a arms etc? |

Anyways, what I think you are asking is; Can you use a MUST II conversion kit on an Aussie '55 FORD? You can buy the conversion as a kit or in seperate service pieces. I would think that you would just want the crossmember, arms and brake assemblies as you would need a right hand rack. Did FORD offer the Pinto or MUST II (or variation) down under? The FOX body ('79 up Mustang, LTD II, Fairmont and T-BIRD) rack can also be used on the MUST II crossmember. It mostly depends on rack availability in your area. Hope that helps. |

Actually i was really asking if you have seen anything on the market aimed at customlines specifically. I have assumed up to this point that customlines have the same style of chassis to the chevs with only small variations mounting points shape etc. No one here seems very interested in making anything for a street car along the lines of the kits offered buy heidts or jim meyer or fat man fabrications. I know its possible it is just a matter of finding the right people. Do customlines carry even half the popularity of 55-57 chevs in the states because there seems to be no where near as much info avalible on them.

I think what you are describing is a 1955 FORD Ranchero, i.e. it has a FORD front end and is open in the rear like a pickup truck. So, if that assumption is correct, it sould have the frame of a 1955 FORD station wagon, with the front rails being the same as ours.
That series is not as popular as the '55 to '57 Chevs, so therefore not much is offered in the line that you are looking for. <a href="http://www.rcmotorsports.net/page3.html" target="_blank">-Rod & Custom Motorsports-</a> makes custom installations. Read their site and see if that is what you are seeking. |

The mainline was as far as i know only made and sold in Australia and is only avaliable in right hand drive it was made on the convertable chassis the one with the tram track X cross member mid way up the chassis. Very strong looking and just as heavy. This was for strength to compensate for the lack of a roof on the covertable i am told and is different from a sedan. Im not sure about the wagon. That's interesting. Wonder why they used such a heavy frame? The front suspension/rails should be the same as our sedan. Anyways, a custom MUST II crossmember can be made for your application. I just hate to think what freight and duties would be on the transfer. Do your FALCONS (I think it is) have steering racks? I think finding a suitable rack would be the most difficult part of the conversion. |

Shipping would basically kill me. But if i have to i could try getting it shipped over with some imported classics. Most conversion places over here use modifyed racks and pumps off a GM sedan called a commodore it comes with a 350chev i heard the two door version you might have heard of it the monaro will most likely be sold in the states by Pontiac and quite possibly be badged as the new GTO. Rear wheel drive six speed box 350hp could be good. In the end im thinking for all the trouble i will have to go to i might just hang on save up the 10-20000 bucks i need and buy or have a new chassis designed and built. Bloody hard way to go though just to get a 50s classic to handle well. Those are the breaks i guess. <img src="graemlins/pain.gif" border="0" alt="[pain]" />
