I have a '50 Chevy, and I want to know if anyone out there has heard much about the bolt-on crossmember kits offered. I want to lower the car and upgrade to disc brakes. I considered keeping the stock front end and adapting the spindles to accept discs, replacing the bushings on the tie rods and swaybar, and cutting a coil, but found that all the weel cylinders and master were seized.

I figure that for the price and time of replacing all of that stuff, I would be smart to buy a crossmember and scavenge the rest from the boneyard si I'm modernized. I don't have a welder, and besides, the factory front end is bolted on anyway, so what the heck. Any thoughts?

As an alternative to the belly-button MII which isn't a bolt in, I have an article on bolting in a mid-60s or 70s 1/2 ton Chevy pickup x-member on an old Chevy frame. Requires only welding a couple of 1/2" thick spacer plates on the frame rails. Goes in with 4 bolts. You get the sway bar, coil spring suspenion, power steering and looks like it should be there.

How is your sister? How can i get a copy of your bolt in 60`s pick up truck article? Thanks in Advance.

darn it I forgot to say this is for a nova or monte carlo clip. The monte is better as it is a little narrower. Also the nova bumper horns are just way big and take a little longer to slice and dice with the old blue flame wrench.

I have two articles which are complementary. One is from a rod magazine and shows a lot of details but the author splits the x-member in the middle to bend it out to clear the frame. He then bends it back arond the frame and welds it. The second article is one I wrote that shows how I notch the frame rails instead of splitting the x-member. Both use a '41 Willys frame but the principles apply to any installation.

I just bought a 49 chevy. coupe body, the frame is junk, i want to put the body on a later frame with floor pan left on the donor car... ( DICK DEAN ) mercury style,... What kind of chevy car would work ????? the 49 has 115 inch wheel base. has anyone done this swap with a chevy,?????
