Well I'm new member and I'm starting my first street rod.I have never built anything from the ground up, but am looking forward to it. I have a 40 plymouth and need to rebuild the front end. I would like to keep as much of the original front end, but need to add disk brakes & power steering. Anyone done this? How about a good place to buy parts?

I have never owned a Mopar of any kind.

A friend of mine says these folks have disc conversions.

plydo has a lot of stuff including power rack kits. also, for your brake kit, you can try www.mprakes.com They have kits for just about everything. plydo also sells kits that use factory spindles with GM rotors and Chrysler calipers.

I am in the process of doing the same thing to a 37 Plymouth. I had a number of people tell me that a Volare front clip or suspension system (which bolts on) would give me 11"disc brakes, new steering, torsion bar front independent suspension and built in motor mounts for the small block 360 Chrysler engine I'm going to put in. Everyone I've talked to raves about the easy install and the excellent ride. I bought one (1978) and it is too wide for my rails unless I want to get into alot of welding modifications. My rails are 27 1/2" apart and the Volare is 32". I'm not totally sure I can't make it work but I may just want to go another direction if it is too extreme. I don't know how wide the rails are on a 40 but if your close it might be a great deal for you. I'm just north of Detroit.

Isn't this JONS area? Vintage Mopar? If not take a look at the goodguys chief, Gary Meadors has had one for 20 years or more.

I'm building a 1939 Chrysler Royal Coupe rod and am using Fatman's dropped spindles with Plydo brake kits.

You might want to get a copy of "How To Build Chryulser/Plymouth/Dodge Hot Rods" and also "Chasisis and suspension Handbook". Both of these will be a big help to you.

Don't use the Volare/Aspen I used 1 under my 48 plymouth & it needed special off set wheels to work. Use either a Mustang or B-body mopar or a ply-do conversion. the B-body mopar suspension does need to be narrowed but it isn't a hard job. good luck

maybe this will help on your build A 73 B-body mopar will bolt in & is the proper size hope it helps get you on the road sooner
