Whats the deal with this? I have seen many kits available for 30-32 but none for a 28? they are the same frames are they not? I am wanting some feedback on good vrs bad. Any major difficuties involved? should a guy buy a kit if available? Or just cut up the mustang? Or is there some other donor car that works just as well?
Any help would be appreciated.

1932 frames are vastly different than Model A frames. The wheelbase is 2 and 1/2 inches longer, some wider and has drop on both ends.


Most MustangII/Pinto front ends use a rack and pinion steering system which is in front of the wheel centerline. This means the splash apron has to be done away with or sectioned a good bit(UGLY).

In order to get the 2 arms parallel, the upper arm is in the fender.

This has been done but it has been with limited sucess. The time and effort involved in cutting a stock MustangII up and adapting it to look good is a good bit of effort.

Most Model A's use a 4 Bar set up with a dropped axle. Vega steering is popular with a 4 bar. Kits are available.

As a note......I do not sell any parts. I am a hobbyist. I think that the MustangII/Pinto suspension is UGLY and disfunctional under Model A's.

If you budget will stand it, you will be way ahead of the game in time and money, with a TCI Model A frame

i have to agree with deuce a cut out mustang II front susp is{ugly} i have a 32 ford pickup and i used a ifs front susp complete mush better and looks good to.

My 37 Dodge came with a pinto front steer sub. Very ugly and not lined up properly either. To many good kits out there. I like HEIDTs, got a great kit from them with tubular a-arms. You can make anything work, cut a little here, weld there.

my 28 model A roadster p/u had a mustII front under it, i have a pic on this website. some hick just slid the whole assembly under the front and bolted it to the frame. UGLY for shure <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" />

Dropped axle, 4-bars, and drag link works just fine, and looks right at home.

I normally sit in the background & do not disagree w/anyone but, I'll take exception here. I have put a Heits universal Must II under my Model A(1931 slant winshield 4 dr).
The model A words excellant w/a Must II. IT INVOLVES MORE WORK than the average rodder wants to do or pay for. The following has to be done:
1. make a frame w/ a 106" wheelbase & frame horns that are 2 1/3" longer.(the extra room is in the engine compartment& the hood is 2 1/2" longer)
2. Cut a hole in the fender for the upper A arm clearance.
3. Make a bubble that starts at the extreme rear of the fender & comes to the front. At the front the fiberglas is not pulled in to meet the fender but a 1 1/2" space is left between the inner & outer fender. This area is for a ss turn signal epoxyed in the fender.The turn signal is shaped like a 1/4" moon. This hides the fact that there is a bubble.
4. The extra 2 1/2" horn length at thr front uses a 32 style pan that hides the R&P....you have to make that........Don

I'm a welder by trade and I just finished my 32 chevy truck frame with M-2 suspension, man I better go back and start over.

mustang II are great! Go for it man! If you need somebody to take your existing axle & hardware let me know. That stuff will look great on my '26.

i would not worry about the heidts, but if you ate worried, get a TCI.. and if you use the grille of a 32 on your A you will get the a cool look and hide the M2 that gived a ride worthy of a car that cost all the spare money you have..

sir ,ihave a28/29 model a that i put aweimer advertised in r/c and s/r he is out of wisconsin. any way if you want fenders go with the must 2 i do not have fenders and it looks a little ugly . if i had it to do over i would have the rack on the back side( rear steer0 that would save some grief. .I cut 1 coil off and have dropped spindles and my car is low. If I want to put fenders on the mounts will have to be welded on . my bottom a rms are up aprox 2 degrees and my uppers aprox. 20 degrees. i have not driven the car yet, but it will have to be more stable than a buggy spring, solid axle.

Sells an IFS crossmember kit for 28-31 fords. It is set up so that you don't have to bubble the fenders. I just bought one but don't have it in yet. It is well made and heavy duty. The instructions that come with it suck, but the guy at progressive says they are the best in the industry. He is very good about trying to help by phone though.

If you read the post about Heidt's plan on taking a while.

Several companies sell complete IFS setups for the model a. I have found that the $2100 to $2400 price is not that bad. By the time you assemble all the parts (crossmember kit, a arms, 2" drop spindles, rotors, bearings, calipers, etc) you will have nearly as much invested and you still have to assemble it yourself instead of just welding it in and being done. If I had it to do over, I'd buy the complete IFS (TCI, Heidts, etc.). Alas I am too far into this and would have too much shipping and restocking cost to do that now, but if I were you... <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" />
