Post re: 42 dodge coupe

I'm sure someone out there has installed a Camaro/Nova subframe in a 42-48 Dodge. BUT, I doubt there is a book about it. There have been many many articles in the various street rod magazines about doing this trick. The important thing is to check your original tread width against the Camaro or Nova donor car. Also the decision has to be made whether to use a front steer or rear steer subframe. That is, is the steering box mounted to the front of the crossmember or to the rear of the crossmember in the subframe. Using a rear steer subframe pretty much eliminates the potential, sheet metal/bumper mounting problems that may arise.
As an alternative, you may look into the purchase of a kit to install a variation of the Mustang II/Pinto front suspension in your Dodge. Easier than a subframe in every respect.

Fat man and a few others make a front sub that goes from the firewall forward, on my 48 dodge business coupe, i rebuilt the stock front end, then used a center pivot cavalier rack and pinion steering box, works great. adapters for volare or gm rotors and calipers.
