Post BUMPSTEER

I have a 60 Ranchero with the original(63 V8) aframes still in it. I have mounted a Buick Skylark rack pinion in it at this point. Once I get everything back in it such as Motor/Tranny & all accessories it is my understanding that I should try to achieve a bottom aframe that is level with the ground to minimize bumpsteer. Am I on the right track or at the wrong station? Now with the front end skyhigh the bumsteer is horrible. Thanks for any advice/opinions, Jay

Cool re: BUMPSTEER

Jay, When you use a rack on an independent front end : If you make a straight line between were the top arm and bottom arm pivot the rack tie rods have to pivot in that line. If there close you might get away with it. If not it will be bumpsteer big time..........Lash <img src="graemlins/pain.gif" border="0" alt="[pain]" />

As lash says, it is important to have the flex joints on the steering gear in line with the axis of the pivot on the lower A-arm and the tie rods on the rack parallel to the line between the lower ball joing and the lower A-arm pivot axis. As long as you have it set like that, it shouldn't have significant bump steer even if the front end is high in the air.
