Hello everyone. I'm new to the board and am glad i found this site!
I have a 54 Nash 2dr sedan i want to pro street. I will use a chev 350/350 and want to add Mustang front steering. I also want to tub the rear. Has anybody had experience with such a set up on these cars? Ive seen lots of Mustang kits out there but nothing for a 54 Nash. ChassisWorks has a rear frame kit. Are they a good choice? Any of your experiences would really get me started in the right direction. |

Hey ProNash, That is going to be a sweet ride when you get it done. I love seeing people building "Odd" out of the ordinary cars these days! It kind of says, this is who I am regardless of what everyone else thinks! I am in the process of building a 62'AMC Rambler into a 60's style Gasser. I don't know what type of frame that your Nash has, but someone will be able to make up a mustang II crossmember for it, no problem. It sounds like you are going to back half the car with a narrow rear, tub's, coilovers etc. I have no experience with Chassisworks but I do know that JEG'S can supply you with whatever you need for the change over. Besides, Jeg's boy did win the PRO STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP this year!! (just had to throw that in) AnyWay, Good Luck and keep us posted.

I saw this done at Cruisin the Coast this past year. It was a wild ride indeed! The front was extended and it had a big block, wow. I think I have a photo of it if you would like to see it let me know. Sorry, no help with the chassis. Good Luck,
Will |

Oddrodder:
Thanks for the encouragement. Your right, its an odd choice but thats why i chose the body style. This thing has unibody construction like the early 60's Ford Falcon. I've seen pro street falcons so i know unibodies are doable. I need to find somebody that knows somebody that has a relative that has experience doing these conversions on unibodies. Will's 41: Thanks for your post. I would be interested in any pic(s) you have on that! Just email to me if possible. Any of you other guys out there that are running Pro Street on the smaller cars can chime in at any time with advise! Don [ January 05, 2003: Message edited by: pronash ]
|

Yeah Pronash, My 62' Rambler is a unibody too! You might check with HEIDT'S at 800-841-8188 for a custom front suspension, you should be able to give them rail to rail measurements and get a drop in frontend delivered to your door! Be prepared though, their stuff is a little spendy, but worth it if you have deep pockets!

HEY PRO NASH: Good to see another Nash join the ranks. I have a 1938 Nash Lafayette with a 350/350 with Mustang II front end and it is a good driver. I have had it all over the mid part of USA. See ya on the road DAVE E SHANK

When I was a kid I paid 60 bucks for a perfect 51 Bathtub Nash two door with a flathead six and a three on the tree with overdrive. The shift handle kinda swiveled around in a ball socket in the dash. The overdrive worked when I pulled out the "OD" handle and let up on the gas. It was my second car. Just something to get to and from a summer job and back and fourth, from point-A to point-B with. The car ran flawlessly and got 21 mpg on the road. The front seat flopped down flat, and with very little effort, converted to something resembling a king size bed. It was a great Partymobile, I had a BALL with that car - Lucky I didn't get arrested... I drove it for six months and getting tired of being razzed at stoplights, I sold it for $100. Man! do I wish I had that car now... I've seen a few 50's Nash streetrods "To kill For." I saw one featured in a magazine a while back that was just gorgeous. I've also seen a few Nash Prostreet Rods including a Nash, woody wagon at the cruises we attended last summer.
The way I see it, old Nashes make perfect streetrods - the Prostreet look is right at home on these delightful old tubs. The Nash look has been growing on me for 35 years now and I just love 'em. The response you will get, once you are done with your ride is something the tri-five Chevy guys can only hope for. 50's Nashes are just late bloomers... In my opinion, their time to shine has finally arrived. It's about time |

Prime Mover: Mine currently has rebuilt 6 cyl, 3 spd. Sounds just like your school ride. Its the base model, no frills with 140k miles. If you like Nashes, take a look at this 51...it will make you drool.
]http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31863&item=1876643524&rd=1[/URL] It looks like i will have to go with a generic mustang cross member...so far nobody makes a ready made system for this car. The front cross member sits way forward in the car. A 350 will fit but it will be tight. A V-6 may be a better way to go....? ProNash - Mine was a full size factory blue bubble back. The one in your pic, is like the woody-wagon kustom I saw last summer. I wish I could help you out, but I never got a look at the underside of either one of these cool rides. They were slammed. The prostreet bathtub I saw, was kind of a pearl candy purple and must have had a full lenghth tub in the trunk to get those wheels where they were. Smooth firewall, rat motor and the best of everything.
Keep the faith. 50's Nashes are Riotous Rods, they break necks. Most people don't even know what they are, even after a double take. Wasn't there one featured in a magazine a while back, Rod and Custom maybe? |

BOBCARMAN: Thanks for the post. I called Fatman and left a message on their machine. (No "human" contact with them yet). I'm hoping they can help.
I've been looking at Hot Rods in Escondido, Ca's web site. They make some nice rods. Randy wants me to email him pics of present front end system, rear end set up and engine compartment. They have complete fab shop. Take a look at their site here: http://www.hotrodscustomstuff.com/ I really want to do this myself from kit(s) if possible. Well, as much as i can, anyway....i just got a new Hobart 175 mig welder i want to try out. My ace in the hole is a father-in-law with 35 years of welding experience with McDonald Douglas aircraft. Pro Nash - Ok man, I didn't want to appear too stupid so I did a little research. I hope this isn't a site you've already visited. Pick this guy's brain man, he's bound to know exactly what you need. Funny thing, this car is from My home state.
