Post frame exchange

I am looking for a frame to put a 51 merc(car) body on and it was suggested a early to mid 70's gmc would work. Does anyone have any ideas or know something on the subject? I appreciate any feedback the more I know the better. <img src="graemlins/evil.gif" border="0" alt="[evil]" />

I have a book about all American cars,your Merc has 118 inch wheel base.Others I found are 72-76 Torino 4 door,72-76 Merc.Montego 4 door.,77-79 LTD11 4 door,77-79 Merc.Cougar 4 door,69-72 Pontiac Gran Prix, these could possibly work the book doesn't give wheel stance.Hope this helps some.

You can get so many great new suspension kits and such for your original frame. A complete frame exchange should be the last thing you consider.

Thanks guys, I'll check out those ones.I forgot to specify it's a 4 dr.I kinda have to swap frames though, my original frame is cracked and has been repaired before about 6-8 in. forward of the engine mounts and I do need an engine as well, I was told it was a simple buy a complete car and just swap the bodies.( I know nothings simple but..)

Post re: frame exchange

you can use mid seventies 4-dr gm, regal, cutlass, chevelle also, here in michigan the rust gets all the old frames, guess the people in other parts of the country don't think about that.

I think I would just cut the frame off at the firewall and put a front frame clip on it. That way you don't have to fab up all those body mounts and try to get every thing sitting just right. There are many front frame clips that could work...Just my nickels worth...GlennK
