ok folks can anyone PLEASE HELP ME i'm just to the point (after 6yrs) where i'm going to decide which front suspension i should use. i'm building a 1948 3800 series 1ton burb <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[drool]" /> , & yes i have seen some trucks w/mustang2 suspension under them, a few w/ torsion bar(mostly fords p/u & 55 to 58 chevy p/u), but non w/ dodge dakota front suspenion(but i see them for sale in mags). can anyone shed some light on this for me. what does your truck have under it, how does it ride & what would you do different if you could change it???.......thanks in advance....joe

Joe, I'm putting a Must. II front end in a '46 Chevy 1/2T Panel today. I got the kit from JPL in PA. and its got both the strut rods and a front sway bar. I just called them and was told to use both. The strut rods to keep the lower arms from folding back and the sway bar to keep the body roll out when cornering. At first I thought it was odd to have both in the kit but now it does seem clearer to me. Its been quite awhile (close to 15yrs) since I have built a car so I have to ask alot of questions.

thanks bluepen, i have asked this QQQ in a few forums & got a few good answers from some of those folks but no one has said anything about mustang2 & dakota suspensions. I just have to make up my mind here on what i'm going to do, but i want to be sure it'll carry my 1ton BEAST ......joe

I'm a Mustang II kind of guy but for a 1 ton I think maybe the bolt on late 70's Chevy Pickup front suspension might be a better choice. I'm not up to speed on the exact years etc. but if you do a search of the archives I think there's been plenty of discussion on it.

yes the p/u front suspension would be nice BUT its about 4inches (total) too wide, I have been told you can use different offset wheels, but I'm a little leery about is since i havent talked to anyone who has done this swap to a 48-54 chevy p/u. & i dont want to install something only to find out i have to cut it all back out.....SOOOOOOOOO folks anyone out there who has done the 70-80's style p/u front suspension to a 48-54 p/u or burb......joe

yep I have that site on my favorites, BUTTTTT like I said I would love to hear input from someone on the board who has done this swap & how they corrected for the wide front suspension w/rims, cause I would love to know the offset of the wheels, because I want to use Vette style ralley wheels on my BURB. BUT I also would love to hear from other who have used a dakota or a torsion bar (I have one & it was FREE) suspension under thier truck. So I know how much work they had when they did their swap........ thanks...joe
