Post re: frame swap

i have seen an pretty cool 51 mounted on an 1990'ish S-10 frame. although i have never actually done the swap my self, i have worked on a frame off on a 50 chev and as far as i remember it is not unlike the s-10 in dimmentions. anyway s-10 frames are not that hard to find, nor are they expensive or to rusty, they take a v-8 with the right hedders and any late GM tranny. also the breaking system is as good as one can hop eto experience in a 50 chev. Plus you can get all sorts of suspension parts if you weer in to that kind of thing (airbags) 4wd even... possibillities...

Post re: frame swap

Its a lot easier to clip it, or go with M11 crossmember, or use 80's C10 front susp. they bolt in. Think about the work involved in changing the frame, NOTHING will fit exactly right. Have heard of people using early 70's El Cam., S-10, and early 80's C10. Friend clipped his, I used Mus11. Can't say which is best.

Post re: frame swap

I have done quite a few frame swaps & front clips. The front clips are easier however, if you have your mind set on a frame swap go for it.
Trk frames like the s-10 swoop up in the rear where the bed is & the frame rails will be up into your rear seat area. Probably the frame that would fit the closest is a late model Chevelle(1986). These have a better suspension than a trk frame. If you are interested in this frame & have the proper welding skills to make some changes to the frame let me know & I'll send you a picture of a modified frame.......Don

Post re: frame swap

my first choice would be a 71-72 chevy 1/2ton w/dics brakes.
2nd would be 73-81 1/2ton...
both would be a damn-near bolt in and you can get lots of lowering stuff.
i assum you mean a PU....

Arrow re: frame swap

AKM, if you're just wanting to swap for better brakes, you can get disc conversions for your truck and save some money/time.

Post re: frame swap

yes it is a p.u. and yes i do want disc brakes but i also want power steering and i can't find any kit anywhere for p/s. i also looked up power brake kits and they run about $1500- i don't have that kind of money so i would rather do the work as a good learning experience. so any info on how to preform this would be very helpful and a much thanks.

Talking re: frame swap

Contact Tom at Street Rod Engineering. I think it is streetrodengineering.com they are in Az. They are custom building me a mustang II front end for my 41 Buick and that is a kit that does not exist anywhere. I don't know how many measurements I have made but they are very specific. It is costing me a mint to ship it to NY but Tx is not that far, should be cheaper. Email me if you have any questions. Steve
