Since discs were not available on any GM car back then, there is not an interchange. I would suggest that look to companies like Master Power Brakes and similar companies for an updating modification. It will be expensive.

67-72 chevelle,GTO,Lemans,GS,skylark,442,cutlass,70-72 monte carlo, gran prix disc brakes spindles assy. will bolt onto your 64 chevelle, stay away from 67-68 disc brakes,as they are 4 piston calipers and very $$$ to fix.67-69 camaro and 68-74 nova spindles will work if you put your chevelle steering arms on.It is a easy change over.{Bolt on]

You can use disc brakes from 68-74 nova 70-72 monte carlo is the one to check out because most of them have F41 suspension..means rear sway bar and boxed control arms..these monte carlo swaps have kept 4 of my cars covered in disc brakes and rear handling to boot! Dont overlook the monte carlos from 70-72!!

64 Chevelle w/ 1986 700R Transmission

I have a 1964 Chevelle and I purchased a 1986 700r Transmisson.
I know I need to change the drive-line and I just purchased the lockup kit for the torque converter...

My question is, since the trans came from a 1986 camaro iroc.... the back portion of the tranny doesn't look like it will match the crossmember. i know I need to move it back and possibly cut and reverse the mounting plate....But the way it mounts from the transmission...doesn't look like it wilkl work.

Do I need to find another backend of another transmission to make it match the mounting plate...If, so... What do i find?

re: 64 chev chevelle disc brakes

A kit sells for about $900.00--$1000.00, You can pick up the necessary parts for a bolt on plus some new parts at the local parts store for around $300.00 or less. Good Luck

The knowledge base is full of info. for this project. check Jons post in the lounge.

Hot Rod Mags

Just check a few of the hot rod magazines. You will see a display of almost every thing you would need. Some of the advertisers like Chevell Classics sell kits for yours. But the best way is to visit the bone yard. Those guys will tell you what to get and what should be new. The home work is easy and fun. GL

re: 64 chev chevelle disc brakes

Does Wilwood make a set that fits over your existing spindles? I used one of their front disc kits on my 65 Mustang. Very easy swap.

re: 64 chev chevelle disc brakes

What ssaza said. I will add that the cheapest way to do it is to take everything from a donor car of the proper vintage. This will include not only the rotors, calipers, and spindles, but also the brake lines, proportioning valve and master cylinder/power brake assembly (including the rod between the brake pedal and the booster). You are then assured of a balanced system. The master cylinders are totally different between drum and disc brake cars, and so is the proportioning valve rates. Even after buying new pads, turning the rotors and rebuilding the calipers you will have a little less than half of what you would with the aftermarket kits.

But if you want to spend the money, the aftermarket stuff is sweet...

Does the tailstock on your 1986 700R4 have three holes going through it . If so that is OK Just modify the cross member so you can bolt the mount to the rear bolt holes in the trans case. If You want to you can get a pickuo truck tailstock from another 700R4 .(4L60)

re: 64 chev chevelle disc brakes

My front kit disc from Wilwood was $475.00. 2 new steel braided lines were $16.00. A M/C from a 74 Maverick was $75.00. I also liked having new parts instead of 40 year old parts and the weight savings was about 60 pounds off the nose.
