49 fleetline
do not even attempt to do a frame swap. it would be a big waste of time. mustang II is availiable from everyone who sells it...posies makes rear springs...weld the frame together where it is rivited, add a shock mount crossmember in the back. if you can't weld, buy a car already done. 49-52's have a pretty good frame, if your car doesn't, find another car or another frame...

re: Wheelbase of 1949 chev fleetline car?
hell just rebuild it & add power streering, disc brakes whatever else you want. those front suspension are suppose to be the same as the early corvettes and there are some folks who would kill for one. BUT if you decide to swap the front suspension the easiest is a M2 , some just bolt on in the stock holes.............good luck...joe

115" according to the service manual.
Edit: Fleetline was Chevys name for the fastback, Styleline was the coupe. C |

I have a fleetline also, the frame does look like it's good and strong so i wouldn't think it would need a swap.
Also didn't know the suspension was suppose to be the best, whered you get this info from? |

Thats cool.. learned something new :-)... I've read somewhere that a lot of people change the front susp of the "fat fender" cars. Thats why I considered it.... Anyway, Thanks for the info

re: Wheelbase of 1949 chev fleetline car?
the EASIEST front suspension swap is putting in a mustang2 under it, that way you dont have to modify any sheet metal except maybe the inner fender wells............joe

re: Wheelbase of 1949 chev fleetline car?
How many of you have swapped front ends and or kept the stock one and put a power rack on it or something on it. What are you likes dislikes?
I'm wondering b/c I don't see too many sites of what people have done to these cars.. Just pictures.. Just want a little imput on what some people have done and or wish they had done.. Thanks in advance |
