Hi, I am new to the hot rod scene and have a simple question. In reading the posts, the most common front clip to install is the S-10. Why is this?

hell I always thought it would be a Nova type or M2, even though I'm in the process on putting my 48 Burb on a S10 frame........joe

I'd say probably too,the most common front clip is the nova if you're thinking a total reclip,as far as front suspension I'd agree the mustang 2, replacing the front crossmember only then adding your suspension to that. The S-10 maybe something more yet to come,I'm just starting a 47 chevy sedan delivery,ended up using a S-10 clip felt it went in really nice it does have front steer which may create some problems in some applications.However it's track width is about 1inch narrower than mustang 2, the frame kickup isn't that much, you can buy lowering kits reasonable if you want to get lower,felt you can have a decent front setup very reasonable price.I'm just getting started will be placing more pictures in my photo album as I go along and getting more stuff mocked in place.I didn't have a choice the clip that was in was to wide and to far foward or find a new frame.If it would have been original probably would have went with mustang 2,if your just getting started take your time and look at all your options and ask questions,we've all pretty much been there and someone will try to help

Why a Nova? Is it due to the width of the frame rails matching up to the original frame rails? Is there any pics anyway someone could look at?

Novas where probably used alittle more,some had rear steer made it easier to adapt in,the track width usually fit alot of different projects,about anysize motor would fit.Check the knowledge base might be some pics.there or do a search on the net might find a site with pics.

Novas and Camaros used basically the same clip. Easy to get parts for, and the front clip bolted out as a whole -- no frame cuting required to remove it. Now these are late 70s cars (Novas) and early 80s (Camaro/Firebird). They are getting less easy to find as they were! The S-10 front end is similar, and S-10s and Blazers are a dime a dozen in the junkyards -- just like Novas used to be. The S-10 width fits early cars better (30s-40s) as well. Another popular clip was the Chrysler Aspen/Volare. They have torsion bars so there are no spring towers. Torsion bars generally ride better than springs, but make the clip heavier.
