re: blazer swap 4.8 to a v8 s/b/c
OK...place to start is with "Jags That Run" website (sounds like I am part owner since I refer to it so much).
http://jagsthatrun.com/ But his books...read them. The mechanics of the swap aren't too bad, but depending on your local smog police the details can eat you up. The first issue with the carb setup is the fuel system. Your 4.3 (not 4.8) Jimmi has a high pressure return-line system that will need to be changed out. Summit and Jegs both sell the adapters (Advanced Adapters) as does Mike at JTR. I used old Camaro headers on mine to keep it narrow, but there are headers available if you have the bucks. Buy the books from JTR and read them. Good luck, Dave |

re: blazer swap 4.8 to a v8 s/b/c
I looked into doing a similar swap with an s-10 blazer i had but the first thing you probly have to do is to find an adapter set or fabricate some new motor mounts cause if a 91 is the same as mid 80's they are nothing alike. Hood clearance might also come into play and will the motor squeeze in between all those nice accessories. good luck

re: blazer swap 4.8 to a v8 s/b/c
Chevelle is right, you MUST have the right adapters. A small block fits but only barely. Hood clearance is a problem but not insurmountable...I was afraid I would have to put on a hood scoop just to clear the intake, but managed to massage some braces and got it in. The length of the total engine is the big problem (which is why a big block swap becomes WAY too much trouble). I ended up reworking the grill/radiator support and moving everything forward about 2". I still have to use an electric fan from a Taurus, though so far that works OK, but lots of guys can manage to get a mechanical fan and shroud in it.
My question would be how you can get away putting a 1978 engine in a 1991 vehicle?? Where I live that would be a total non-starter when it came time to license it. Be sure you get all that checked out before putting in the time. Dave |

I agree with Bluesman's response. I don't know why everyone worries so much about the motor mounts -- that's got to be the easiest part of the swap. The wiring, fuel connections, accessories brackets, driveshaft, engine cooling, shift linkage, yada yada is much more trouble than the mounts.

re: blazer swap 4.8 to a v8 s/b/c
I have an 85 s10 blazer that i put a 355 into. Its not really that hard to do the swap it only took me 2 days to get the 2.8 out and put the sbc in and have it on the road. didn't need any books nothing built the motor mounts my self and welded them in. you will have to pound the fire wall back some so the hei will clear. i have a performer rpm intake and a spacer on it and the hood fit fine. the fan and rad fit fine with about four inches of space between them never had so cut the rad support ot anything. there is only manifolds on it now but i plan on getting headers soon if you run the manifolds you might have to adjust the steering abit to make the drivers fit. there is a joint on the steering shaft the i had to trim abit to make everything fit other than that it was basically easy.

re: blazer swap 4.8 to a v8 s/b/c
As long as you have some 2.8 frame mounts and the 2.8 to v8 adapters then your set.
My truck has a 4.3 radiator and shroud in the stock location along with a mechanical fan. I didn't touch the firewall for the HEI.Theres about 3/4" clearance. If you use the camaro type manifolds you'll have to move the steering coulmn over a little for clearance like the JTR book reccomends. That sounds alot worse than it actually is..its really not a big deal. Try to do it right. It's not something you want to hack together. I don't think canada has as strict emission regulations as the US thats what we have ALOT of Canadian members on v8s10.org |
