my stock 2.8 has a rochester verajet with all the emission hook-ups. I've eliminated the emission system from the engine and am having trouble with the fuel mix as the verajet has no fuel or air adjustments. Does anyone know of a way to modify this carb to work without the emission system intact?

Idle mixture screws only account for your idle quality. If the carb has a mixture control solenoid and you disconnected the computer controls adjusting the idle mixture won't do much. If it doesn't have a mixture control solenoid you'll be ok.

What I've done in the distant past, is replace
the Vari-Jet with either a Webber 32/36DGAV, or the Holley/Motorcraft 5200, these are great little progressive 2BBL carbs, eminantly tunable, and came, oddly enough, on early 2.8L Mercury Capris, and Ford Mustang2s so the match was about perfect right out of the box... |
