1949 Chevy Hot Rod
This is a 1949 Chevrolet Fleetline Deluxe, sitting on an Impala frame.

The smooth, sleek side profile of this Chevy is complemented by equally impressive mechanical components such as power steering and brakes, dual exhaust, as well as a V8 hooked to a 350 transmission (the original engine for this model was a 216.5 cubic inch six-cylinder with (gasp!) a one-barrel Carter carb).

The rear tinted glass only adds to the mystique of the '49's super-smooth, almost Porsche-like rear.

In 1949, Chevy was still selling quite a few cars in "woodie" style. Although (thankfully) a wood body option was not available on the Fleetline Deluxe, it was still available on other models. In fact, Chevy marked a turning point in American automotive history when, in the middle of the 1949 model year, they replaced their "woodie" wagon with an all-steel model. In the next few years, America would start to move away from the whole "woodie" concept as chrome became the new design choice for the next decade. Sure, the "woodies" had their time, and hold a soft spot in the hearts of many, but some people will argue that there are truly five basic elements -- earth, water, wind, fire...and chrome!
