1972 c10

my buddy has a 1972 C10 and we cant figure out what gear is in the rearend. we spin the tire one time and the drive shaft spins less than two times. so does anyone know what gear is in this thing?

you'll have to take the diff cover off and read the number on the gears to find out bud

Removing the dif. cover and counting the ring/pinion teeth is the most accurate way to know for sure. Other than that you can jack up the rear, put her in neutral, if it's a posi spin the tires one rotation and count the driveshaft revolutions, if it is an open rear you need to hold one tire still while turning the other tire one revolution and however many revolutions the driveshaft makes multiply that by two (at least I think that works for an open rear). I guess there isn't a tag on the rear cover, that would tell you also.
