1st Amendment, What 1st Amendment?

Does this bother anyone but me? Pay particular attention to the third paragraph.

Can't wait to read the responses saying this is OK because W did something.

Troubling for sure, but not very surprising from this administration.

Following OMBís review, the Administration has decided to make a number of changes to the rules that we think make them even tougher on special interests and more focused on merits-based decision making.

It is about time.

Here's a sad "paraphrase" of a conversation I was having with a couple guys from the Navy Club a while back that ties in really well, I think.... :

Quote:
You can get a lot more confusion and cover-ups accomplished by hiring one well-placed lobbyist than by having 10,000 angry taxpayers complain about what your senator should or shouldn't do.

To me, you can keep everything out in the open (supposedly.... ), but somebody will always find a way to twist something around and further distort the outcome of what the people really want. Years ago, back before I entered high school, I told my dad I had thoughts about getting into politics. His advice? "Son, you better reconsider that choice. You're too honest for that...." Sad, but very true, IMHO, even to this day.

In a while, Chet.

Lobbyist are an excellent reason to move to the FairTax.

Tell me in paragraph 3 where you and I, as voters and contributors to political campaigns, are excluded from being silenced.

mud

Taking a bath in the political water is like touring the old sludge in a `1.950 buick straight eight. Its never clean whether you change the oil or not.Only way is to flush it over and over. Then 5 seconds later total sludge, always sludge.

I agree we should keep lobbyist morons away from influencing the spending of the stimulus. So let me get this strait: wire-tapping every conversation I have, reading my mail and personal communications= small government solution to improving security. Disallowing giant companies with huge bucks to spend millions on fast-talking lawyers and lobbyists to try to get our congress to spend money on their companies= Joseph Stalin. Just checking.

Can't wait for fairtax either. I have been looking forward to a $50 dollar visit to mcdonalds for the longest time.

Chicken little, the sky is falling... again. I can't wait for my concrete television!

I think you are taking that paragraph out of context. From the first paragraph:Section 3 of the Memorandum required all oral communications between federally registered lobbyists and government officials concerning Recovery Act policy to be disclosed on the Internet; barred registered lobbyists from having oral communications with government officials about specific Recovery Act projects or applications and instead required those communications to be in writing;

I don't see it as anyone being silenced, just the opposite. What will be said between someone or group and a government official in regards to Federal Stimulus Money will be done in writing so everyone can see/read. No secretive communication, hidden agenda's.

How it would be enforced...who the heck knows.
