Yeah, that wire diagram would be correct, just as long as the small red wire is the one coming from the ignition switch, whether it be through a neutral safety switch or direct from the ignition switch "cranking" post.

If that small wire is on the smaller side for the voltage it will draw you can get a situation where the starter doesn't work correctly or only half works. You may want to check that, I'd have nothing smaller than 12 ga there, and 10 ga would be better.
Even better would be to use that wire to actuate a 30 amp relay and let the relay carry the amp load drawn by the solenoid.

O ok yeah its only a small wire so im wonder if thats possibly the issue, would that cause the issue im having though?

Its possible for it to cause that issue, I have seen it before, but can't say for sure in your application that it is exactly your issue because I'm not looking it in the face.

Are the bolts going through the same holes on the starter they were before? The one in your picture is for both flywheels like nailhead was talking about.

Yup its bolted up the same has it always has been, im guessing its that wire that ericnova72 was talking about because when I pulled the engine i did notice it had a join in the wire but didnt think twice about it.

Ill be running a new wire this weekend an hopefully fingers crossed that its the issue, it does make sence now thinking about it
