383 build
So the other day I picked up a locked up 69 350 sbc for 35 bucks. I pulled everything out and the cylinders have just a little rust, haven't been previously bored or anything, but i think it's a good block to make a sweet build with. Of course ill have it cleaned up at the machine shop.
My plans are to stroke it to a 383 for sure,
I would appreciate recomendations for cam, heads(maybe vortecs), intake manifold and a carburetor. And a recommendation for what crankshaft I should use.

Im probably gonna put it in a truck. Im looking for some good torque and horsepower, but for the street. Enough that I can show those 5 liters whose boss

buy a complete rotating assembly. crank, rods, pistons, rings, balancer, flexplate/flywheel, bearings, all fully balanced for under a grand on skip white performance. trust me, it will save huge amounts of time and money to buy it complete, plus all the parts are going to be much stronger than any stock stuff. listed as good to 500 hp.

you can shop around, but i did for months, and that was the best deal i found. (balancing alone is ~250 bucks here in charleston, wv)

for the heads, if you find a screaming deal then go with the vortecs. if not, id go with an aftermarket aluminum head. plenty to choose from for under 6-700 assembled.

eddy performer rpm intake, definitely. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO GO SINGLE PLANE

750 carb, i prefer holley

build more for torque than hp, maybe 9:1, 9.5:1 compression with a 210-220ish duration cam. i think the vortecs have to be machined to accept more than .450 ish lift??

ill let people with more experience nail down a cam recommendation.

A good block to start with would be a 1 pc rear main factory roller block. Vortecs are a nice factory head but require some work to get more than around .470 lift or so.

Use Google to search for 383 builds. There are so many out there you could not read them all in your lifetime.

1) choose the power you want
2) find the right heads for that application
3)decide what{roller cam preferred} cam allows the heads to flow their potential
4) match compression ratio for cam and fuel used
Balance the engine parts

L31 heads are excellent on a mild 9.5:1 street 355, but when cubic inches are bigger, you need to go with bigger heads, unless you want to build a low-rpm torque motor. Then the L31's will work great, but you're still limited to 9.5:1 SCR because the heads are iron. Aluminum heads will support up to 10.5:1 SCR. More SCR supports more cam.

I am using a 4340 scat crank and a voodoo 60121 cam...Vortec heads.

Camaro Performer magazine had a write up on 383 build for 3000.00. I think its in the March issue.
