39 Willys sedan

I'm working a deal on a 39 Willys sedan but the rear view has me cornfuzed. It looks like the one in the right side of the picture, like a spare tire receptacle.
Any ideas?

Click on above. It looks like a '39 Willys Sedan did not have the spare tire mounted to the trunk lid. I think some of the Willys coupes had the spare mounted to the trunk lid.

That's why I'm confused. The only 2 times I've seen this.

Don't worry about it. You can either put a spare in there or cut out the sheet metal from a car roof with the right curvature and weld it in.
