'51 Mercury Sport Sedan

Here's a couple pictures of my Merc I just bought. Originally purchased from Sherman's in Asbury, NJ. Then went to Ohio for many years, then Iowa for a few years, and now in Minnesota.
Thanks for looking. I'll add more details tonight.

Flathead and the Merc-O-Matic trans. Drives pretty good. Has bias-ply tires on it. Interior was redone, paint and motor overhaul was done in '95.

I'm planning on putting a 302 and C4 in it.

To cure the vapor lock and overheating, I would end up violating it pretty badly anyway. Also the Merc-O-Matic leaves a lot to be desired too. It takes an obsolete fluid and pretty much no one rebuilds them.

Long term I would want to convert to 12 volt and put a reliable 4 barrel intake/carb on it. Add an electric fan...The violations add up quickly.

If you convert to a 12 volt system you'll something like this to keep from frying the gauges. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ELECTRONIC-...ox!65807!US!-1
It would be better to have your original gauges converted to 12 volts, but that can get rather pricey.
Unless you plan on driving for extended periods in bumper to bumper traffic the stock radiator, properly cleaned and recored will be adequate to keep that old flatty cool and without electric fans.
