Funny you should mention that. Would you believe it has a five car garage and an unfinished basement too?

That is what the basement is for. Basements are pretty rare on the beach you know.

Have not been active on this site for quite some time now, but on and off I've been following this thread to see what's up with your Bel Air. The work you've done and the results have served as inspiration numerous times in my own projects.

Looks like it's progressing nicely!

Every time someone posts something like this it just tickles me to death. I hope I have shown that this hobby can be enjoyed, even on a budget, and with patience and for-thought can at least pay for itself.

Thank you for your post Jeb383

I was able to get one of my backrests foamed today. I put them back on the cushion temporarily just to try my best to,see that the pleats would line up between them.

So far, so good. I had to adjust the lines on the drivers seat about 3/16Ē

This seat has been somewhat of an exasperating experience. The first seat back panel I sewed was such a disaster I am going to have to toss it.

This time I sewed the three dark border pieces together, sewed the piping to the border pieces and then took my 50 page hand office stapler and stapled the insert to the border being sure all the alignment marks were "right on." Once I had it assembled with staples I was able to sew it without worrying about holding everything in place as I sewed.

I'm feeling pretty good about this seat now.

Still need to pull the staples but that is just a matter of formality.

John

John, seat is looking great, please send me any mistakes you are ready to toss. Nobody will notice if I'm sitting on it.

Glad to see all your pics are back.

Thanks. PhotoBucket was down for over a month. There will be a lot of business owners looking for a new hosting site.

While PhotoBucket was down, I found Postimage.org which worked quite well after getting used to it.

I'm gonna parrot the others here... looks great to me! I'll be the first to admit that I would have been a bit leery about the color choices from just hearing them, but I'll be darned if they don't work. You've made a believer out of me. That works, and works very well together.

Thanks guys. I have not verified whether I can use any of the pieces I tossed. problem with ripping the seams is the needle holes. With cloth, that is not a problem but with vinyl it is, big time. If I can move over 1/8Ē and not have to worry with the needle holes I will but at this time I have my doubts. I did buy 7 yards of the dark vinyl and 3 yards of the light so I should be OK.

Coswurth, I had a real problem picking a color. Black will not work in a convertible. White is too difficult to keep clean. Red would work if you could find exactly the right color but there is nothing worse than two reds that do not go together.

I did choose the tan to go with the dash and then the brown to contrast with the tan. I am anxious to see it all together.

The LH seat back is going much better. It is probably difficult to understand how it goes together by looking at the pictures but it will be easier to understand once it is all sewn up and assembly starts.

Buying enough stuff so you get all one batch is important, I would imagine. While imagining, somewhere back in the swatch phase I got the mental picture of the brown and tan and while its not me, it does seem like a together combo. I keep wanting to ask if you'd lay some samples over the dash for a shot of all the colors together. But I keep thinking you already did for us. or I already asked

Started typing to say what about the barstool? From the basement. Doesn't it need the "scrap"? I thought you had a barstool which looked kinda like a JiffyPop pan.

You mentioned the word disasterperating and I've had a thing or two go like that this week so thank heaven for second chances, right?

John,

Methinks PB is not down, but doing something a bit more nefarious. I've been using Imgur for awhile now, but just got on PB (only by logging in thru their front page) as a test. My site is also blocked and inaccessible thru the normal link. This is the message I get from the main page login:
