Thats been done more times than you think, so its nothing new. You look at enough trucks and you will see them.

Here's hoping the suicide door fad ends soon!

For a bunch of "individualists" rodders sure jump on the bandwagon of every custom fad that comes along no matter how silly or inconvenient or how much it screws up a good car (note the Pro-street fad as example). Suicide doors will be gone with the wind as soon as rodder magazines feature a car or truck using a variation of the out and up door set-ups like the Ricer-boys are now using.
Why not sit down on the chair in the garage and dream up something or a combinations of things you HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE to modify your truck??

Ow, geez guy do you have to be so hard on a new visitor to Hotrodders?

akitagandy, yep, it is pretty common. And the points are good that pasadenahotrod makes (though his bedside manner is a little rough around the edges ). With all the "kits" made people are doing suicide more than ever. I have done them and personally agree with pasadenahotrod, it is a waste of good time and money. If you like it, than of course it is your truck do it. But you did ask the question. And if you do a search on suicide doors here on the forum you will find a TON of very, very valuable info on getting it done. We have discussed it many times.

My advice, spend the time on detail, spend the time on making the truck as clean and trim as possible and that will be a much bigger stand out than doors opening the "wrong" way.

Now, I am not knocking suicide doors, I do think they are cool. But the time spent is not as effective as detail and making an overall clean truck.

Plus, they call the "suicide" for a reason, they are dangerous.

By the way, I have never seen a REAL "kit" for this modification. I have seen many hinge and video and overall "instructions" sold but there are NO "kits" that will work without a LOT of understanding of basic geomotry and engineering.

Brian

suicide doors

I didn't say I was going to do it ,I wanted some info,What I have is a 54 Chevy truck with a Nova front clip and I thaught I would put a 4 link rear under it,Change up the dash a little bit,I don't have a seat it yet so I don't know what I will do with that yet,I know I want to put power windows and a tilt wheel in it,lower it a little bit, I was thinking maybe air bags, and a nice CLEAN paint job.

Hows the chevy truck coming along?? I see that you have some of the same ideas that i have, redo the dash , nova clip, air bags and clean paint job. I just got my cab and doors painted the other day. I went with a satin finish and i think it looks great!! I am in the process of getting the doors fitted They will never be perfect i think!! I am looking at some power windows ( Nu Relics). I got my wiring kit and will start with that mess

If you have any pictures of your truck i would love to see them..

I think that there are a lot of people that are doing the same things to their vehicles that everyone else does. I have to agree that it is more fun to do different stuff. I have a friend, a member here, that has a S-10. He sits around and thinks of the strangest stuff to do to his truck. He does most everything "Old Rod Style". That means that he decides what the end result is that he wants. He then goes to great pains to do it as cheap as he can. He goes to Pick-A-Part and looks around until he finds what he needs to do the job.

I personally would be more interested in seeing one with doors that open like wings, than another with suicide doors. If there is something that there are that many that have done it, where there is plenty of info on the net, it has been over done!

Not really any big difference from doing suicide on that truck and most any other truck.
