56 Chevy vin # lookup

I have a 1956 Chevy Belair and the Vin# is only 11 letters & #ís. Every website says it has to be 17 characters long. Just want to know how many previous owners there were. Any suggestions?

The 17 character VIN didn't go into use until 1980 IIRC.

People today have gotten so used to it....but you are not going to find any vntsge car information on old classic cars from these online search deals like Carfax and such....the information just never existed back then, no one kept a database of stuff like that and it would all have been on paper if it was(Insurance company file cabinet). None of it was ever transferred to digital, no money to be made in doing it due to small demand compared to current vehicles.

You can look for information on doing a search through your states Department of Motor Vehicles, some have provisions to allow you to do this type of search, but some do not let you.
