As for the outside you are better off leaving it in gel-coat (if it has any) than just putting primer on it. I would also say that all 'outgassing' if by this you mean post-curing should be done before any kind of coating is applied. All solvents should be allowed to evaporate before primer.
We are not suggesting removing the Gel-Coat. The Gel-Coat is roughed up with 80 grit then the whole car is set in the sun for a week or so to allow it to go through several heat/cool cycles. After that a coat of quality epoxy resin is applied, followed by several coats of high build 2K primer. It is common practice to seal the back side of a polyester glass car with epoxy and has been discussed numerous times in this forum.

Thank you for all the replies. Maybe I should have used term “force drying” instead of baking. I have rented paint booth for one day and just wanted to increase temperature so it will be dry at end of the day. Today I called Westcott, and Red neck (both fiberglass body manufacturers) and both said that it would be safe to increase temperature to 140°F.

Yeah, force drying would fit the description better but when most of the painters in the collision industry hit the (bake cycle) on their booth the temps are usually only around 140.

I used a heated booth when I painted my 34. I would run the heater enough to bring the ambient up to about 90 degrees, turn off the heater turn on the exhaust fan, spray then turn exhaust fan off and the heater back on. This was when the outside temp was around 50-60 degrees. If it were mine I would not try and get the car painted and moved from the booth the same day. That is going to make for a long day if your painting it apart.

It just bugs me like when people call R134A "Freon".
