Big Block Chevy Horse Power Build

I am looking at building a Big Block Chevy for my '72 GMC 3/4 ton 4X4 with

factory A/C and posi traction. What cubic inch motor would be best to get

good fuel economy AND horse power? Is it possible to get

good economy and be able to run on pump gas? Will a 396 w/ 9.6:1

compression get better economy than a 454 w/ 9.6:1 compression? How can

I get over 400 horse power out of a 396 w/ a mild cam?
