Jim I am using A urethane based single stage paint, non Metalic, Non
enamel. The paint is made by Valspar.

Its supposed to buff out Ok, so I will have to see in a day or so if
this is correct or not.

Thanks. X

Your original question's been answered in detail, so I won't go into that, but to add my own thoughts on the SS vs Base & Clear issue:

If I'm doing a full paint on an older vehicle, or a commercial , then SS is my first choice (providing it's a non-metallic of course). It is far quicker than B&C, exact colour matching isn't a problem on an overall job, and a 'perfect' finish isn't usually required.

Anything else (late model cars, part paints) and I'll use basecoat and clear, unless the vehicle is already painted in SS, in which case I'll use that for originality.

Yah! What he said!! If you are going to do this kind of work... you gotta get over the "ooooow! I don't want to sand" bologna! You gotta LOVE it!

With that said, Nobody said anything about using a razor blade. Cut the large trash off, carefully. You can save time and avoid excessive sanding in some cases. Just be very careful to lay the blade flat, don't dig in or gouge the paint.
